PPE CAST ALUMINUM ENGINE OIL PAN
Upgrade from the stock stamped-steel oil pan to the PPE Heavy-Duty High-Capacity Cast Aluminum Oil Pan for complete oil drainage, improved durability, enhanced cooling, and superior engine protection.
STOCK PAN RETAINS DIRTY OIL
During each regular oil change, the stock stamped-steel pan retains over half a quart of dirty oil sludge which contaminates the fresh motor oil right away. The stock pan drain nut has oil passages at the bottom, which can become clogged over time, restricting oil flow.
COMPLETE OIL DRAINAGE
The PPE Pan’s flat bottom is engineered to ensure complete oil drainage. This design allows every bit of old oil sludge to be removed during each oil change, preventing contamination of the fresh motor oil and ensuring clean, efficient lubrication from the start.
OIL PAN, ENGINEERED BETTER
PREMIUM ALUMINUM ALLOY
Each PPE pan is cast from A356.0-T6 heat-treated aluminum alloy, a strong, durable, corrosion-resistant, and thermally efficient casting material.
Higher Thermal Conductivity - Better Cooling
A356.0 alloy has significantly higher thermal conductivity than the A380 alloy that some competitors use, the heat treatment process that the A356.0 material undergoes further promotes that advantage. This is why A356 alloy is better suited for applications where efficient heat dissipation is important.
Stronger, More Durable
The engine oil pan operates in a harsh environment, often exposed to impacts from road debris and obstacles. Therefore, it’s crucial to choose the right material with superior mechanical properties.
When compared to the A380 aluminum alloy that some competitors use, PPE’s A356.0-T6 heat-treated aluminum offers higher yield strength, better ductility (less chance of fracturing), and improved corrosion resistance. Moreover, A380 alloy is typically not heat treated due to its composition.
INCREASED OIL CAPACITY
The PPE High-Capacity Cast Aluminum Oil Pan increases the engine oil capacity by 2.0 quarts compared to the stock pan. Higher oil capacity means higher thermal stamina and less chance of overheating (because it takes longer to heat up a larger volume of fluid). It also dilutes the contaminants in the system, prevents sludge formation, reduces wear, and extends oil life.
SUPERIOR CASTING PROCESS
The PPE Cast Aluminum Pans are manufactured using permanent mold casting process. The steel molds in this process provide better dimensional accuracy and smoother surface finish compared to sand molds. This process significantly reduces porosity and internal defects, resulting in better integrity, a denser structure, and higher strength.
PREMIUM MAGNETIC DRAIN PLUG
An ultra-strong, precipitation hardened 17-4 stainless steel drain plug is included. It’s equipped with a powerful high-temperature rated neodymium magnet to pull ferrous debris out of the engine oil, providing additional protection to the engine internals and extending oil life.
The drain plug is carefully positioned facing the rear, eliminating any chance of getting damaged/ripped away by road debris/obstacles, which could cause loss of engine oil, leading to catastrophic damage to engine components.
We use high-temperature neodymium magnets in our oil pan drain plugs, offering 4-7 times the strength of competitor strontium ferrite magnets. Rated to retain magnetism beyond 300°F, these magnets are strategically positioned within the oil sump to maximize contaminant extraction.
Note: If using a copper washer SKU 114052002 on the drain plug, replace it with a new washer during each service.
If using a compound washer SKU 114052004, inspect the washer during each service and replace as needed.
Q: How did PPE increase the oil capacity over the stock pan?
A: The PPE pan gains additional oil capacity by utilizing unused space under the engine while maintaining clearances. The PPE pan also has the same oil pickup relationship as the stock pan.
Q: Does the additional oil capacity of the PPE pan affect the dipstick oil level reading?
A: The increased volume of the PPE pan does not alter the oil level reading on the dipstick, thus retaining the stock reading.
Q: Why isn’t the drain plug facing down from the bottom of the pan?
A: The drain plug is in a location to protect and prevent catastrophic failure from events such as impacts from road debris or other objects. It is positioned for complete drainage during oil changes, unlike the stock pan which leaves about a 1/2 quart of contaminated oil, and sludge.
Q: Why not just overfill the engine with oil instead of installing a pan with more capacity?
A: Overfilling your vehicle with oil can cause aeration of the oil, which in turn can cause increased wear and engine damage.
Q: How much more oil does the PPE 6.6L Duramax Pan hold?
A: The PPE pan will hold approximately 2 quarts of oil over the stock pan. Always determine and verify the proper fill level by reading the dipstick.
