PPE’s new flat-bottom transmission pan for the Ram 68RFE transmission is constructed from high-quality cast aluminum.

This pan features internal heat sinks and external cooling fins. These cooling fins, combined with the increased capacity aluminum construction, promote reduced transmission fluid temperatures. The cooler fluid lubricates better which helps increase transmission service life.

This new pan comes with a Neodymium-equipped, 1-inch stainless steel drain plug to remove harmful ferrous particles from the transmission fluid. Kit includes two NPT plugs and access ports for temperature probes. Upgrade the spin-on transmission filter with our PPE 228052150 Transmission Filter which has 57% larger filtration media for the best protection of your transmission.

In testing, we used a 2013 2500 Cummins-powered Ram towing a 13,000 lb travel trailer. We took the pair on a 900-mile loop through city traffic, steep hill climbs as well as the wide-open, flat highway runs. Transmission temperatures never went over 200 degrees. After cresting the top of hills, transmission temperatures also dropped much quicker than they did with the factory-installed stamped steel pan.

Unloaded temperatures were consistently 10 degrees (or lower) below those measured with a factory pan.

Significantly reduces operating temperature on 2024 RAM 3500 SRW Cummins 6,.7 SO Mega Cab

I have a ~9,500lb 2024 Limited 4x4 3500 SRW Mega Cab with the Cummins 6.7 SO and 68RFE and an S&B 55-gallon after-market diesel tank. My truck is extra heavy because of a Yakima HD rack, heavy loaded cargo carrier, and an American Rolltop cover bed cover, so all that weight works the transmission harder than most trucks due to the extra weight I'm always hauling. I'm mostly in the Seattle area where temps are 40-90F year-round.

I installed this pan in March 2024 and put 17,000 miles on it by October 2024, about 40-50% of the miles were traveled while towing an ~8,000lb travel trailer up and down the West Coast. Before this pan and the PPE thermal bypass valve, my transmission always had a minimum temperature of about 165-175F. After installing this pan and the PPE thermal bypass valve, the highest temperature I have *ever* seen occurred only while towing up a mountain pass in 100-degree weather, and that was a brief blip at 175F.

Otherwise, even while towing, the transmission temperature tend to max-out at about 155F. When not towing, or in cooler weather, I'll typically see 125-140F temperatures as a maximum after 30+ minutes at highway speeds.

Overall, I think the combination of this pan, plus their thermal bypass valve and the included extra-large magnetic filter is good insurance to help a 68RFE transmission work hard and still have a long life. An advantage of having the extra 4 quarts of fluid capacity is that thermal fluctuations are also more gradual; it takes a while to build heat when towing up a grade, and to cool off when exhaust-braking back down the mountain pass. The slower or more gradual thermal fluctuations occur, the less micro-wear on moving parts, IMHO.

Talk about COOL

2019 RAM 2500 Tradesman. Installed the pan, the PPE filter, and the Thermostat delete. Trans used to be same temp as coolant. Today was 107deg F in stop and go traffic not towing trans temp didn’t go past 162deg F. Loves PPE for my LLY Duramax and love them for my Cummins!

Best looking and performing RFE pan

Best fitting and looking RFE tranny pan (IMO) with high quality fasteners, also better priced then the competition. Highly recommend

68rfe pan

I did not install this myself but by the company that rebuilt my transmission here in Alberta Canada. The transmission runs cooler than before( hauling cattle) and looks good and drain plug is great for dropping the oil before the pan and makes it much nicer as a maintence item. This thing is heavy duty. Thanks for the excellent product.
