Heavy-Duty Cast Aluminum Transmission Pan
Excessive heat kills transmission life. As temperature rises, transmission fluid viscosity decreases, weakening the lubricating film that protects gears and bearings. This could cause premature wear and potential failure.
Cast from high-grade A356.0-T6 aluminum alloy, the PPE transmission pan offers 3 quarts of additional fluid capacity, ensuring long-lasting heat management and performance.
The deep external cooling fins maximize the heat-wicking surface area, effectively dissipating heat to keep your transmission cool under pressure. These fins also add strength to the bottom of the pan and enhance impact resistance.
The built-in baffles at the bottom of the pan increase contact between the fluid and the cast-aluminum surfaces, enhancing heat transfer. These baffles also reduce fluid sloshing, ensuring consistent fluid pickup and stable transmission performance. Together with the longitudinal external fins, they form a stiff, cross-bracing structure, distributing loads better and increasing impact resistance.
The drain plug is equipped with a powerful, high-temperature-rated neodymium magnet that captures ferrous metal particles, providing additional protection for your transmission.
Each transmission pan comes with a PPE Deep Spin-On Filter, SKU 228052150, featuring finer filtration and 57% larger media.

Transmission was shifting rough at 40k miles for a 2022 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins that I recently bought used. As the 68RFE can be a weak point when overheated, I thought it was best to add a bigger pan while I was changing fluid anyways. The PPE is heavy duty and I like the cooling fins. This was an easy install and everything mated up perfectly. It was awesome that a PPE return line filter was included with this pan. I was considering Banks but this was cheaper and seems pretty close in design. I am very happy with this pan. Now trans temp sits right at 168* F even pulling long mountain passes with semi frequent shifting from 3rd to 4th gear in manual mode.

The 68RFE transmission pan for the 5th generation RAM 2500 with Cummins is a must have uprade for every HD RAM driver. The drain plug makes fluid changes less messy and the extra capacity should theoretically extend the life of the fluid. The package contained all the required hardware and PPEs extra tall transmission filter with a metal threaded adapter (instead of the OEM plastic one). I recommend getting an extra long 5mm hex key, as one of the bolts by the lines going to the cooler is hard to get to. I also bought an aftermarket gasket - you"ll have to drop the pan again to replace the filters and the RTV sealant will require cleaning every time.

I chose this pan from the many other offerings due to it having more gussets between the bolt holes (added strength). This thing is tough! Installation was simple and straightforward; I used a paper gasket (not included) because I’m not a fan of using RTV, and I used Loctite 243 (blue medium strength) on all the fasteners, torqued to 9 lb/ft. Not knowing how much fluid I had drained, I simply weighed the collected fluid and compared that to a container of new fluid, and added an additional three quarts to get me in the ballpark. I will definitely be using PPE for my differential covers next!
